7 Things God Wants From His Children

In today’s world, everyone has something to say about how we should act, but what does God say about who we are? God wants many things from His children, but here are a good seven to start with.

Let’s get into it!

Bravery

Fun fact, “Fear not,” is mentioned 365 times in the Bible. That is a do not fear for every day of the year, kind of ironic right? In Deuteronomy 31:6 God says, “Be strong and be brave. Don’t be afraid of those people because the Lord, your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you.” I really feel like this cold world thrives on instilling fear, but God is always with us and would never steer us wrong.

Strength

Strength goes hand in hand with bravery. With strength comes bravery, and it takes bravery to be strong. Especially in today’s world, which teaches women especially to be meek. St. Paul the apostle is speaking to the Christian church in Corinth, “So my dear brothers and sisters, stand strong.” 1 Corinthians 15:58. In this simple command, he encourages his brothers and sisters in faith to keep a strong motivation to live a Christian life. There will be trials and tests in your life, regardless if you believe in Jesus. Remember, through Him, we have the strength to weather any storm.

Patience

In 2022, we live in an instant gratification society. We carry around a cell phone that can give us instant access to countless things. It is so hard when we do have to wait for things. In some cases, we can glorify God by being patient and waiting on Him. While we wait, he gives us hope. “Be happy because of the hope you have. Be patient when you have troubles. Pray all the time.” Romans 12:12. I suggest praying while you are waiting. This can significantly grow the relationship you have with God.

Honor Your Body

St. Paul the apostle is really giving the people of the church in Corinth the blueprint. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. So how should we honor our body? I think trying to eat healthier, they do say that your gut is the second brain. Imagine how your thoughts will change with some healthier and whole foods. I think exercise is an obviously one as well. Exercise can dramatically improve your health, and there are endless benefits to your mental health as well. I believe you can honor your body by listening to it as well.

Speaks Truth

When I was little, my mom used to give us another chance when we lied. She would reassure us that it can be scary, to tell the truth, then she would encourage us to take a deep breath and try again. In Ephesians 4:15 the good book states, “Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.” In this book, Paul is writing a letter to the church, notice he says to speak the truth in love. I think this is so important because how many times have you seen people be harsh in the name of truth?

Being Humble

Humility looks different in a lot of different scenarios, but overall, it is more of a statement of mind and awareness. God smiles on those that are humble, just as James talks about in James 4:6, “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” When you are humble, you are grateful, and you know it is the God inside of you that you should be giving glory. Plus, you definitely don’t want God opposing you.

Forgiveness and Compassionate

People can be so hard to forgive, let’s be honest. I’m still forgiving people for things that happened years ago. For me, it is an ongoing process. Every time, I feel that unforgiveness brewing inside of me, I pray again for God to aid me. In Matthew 5:7 the Bible reads, “God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” How are you expected to be forgiven if you can’t forgive people yourself? Even Jesus, when he was being crucified, prays that God forgives the people crucifying him. Are you kidding me? That’s a whole other level of forgiveness. On this journey of getting to know God and who he is, being more like Him should definitely be a byproduct.
